Huawei has announced the Pocket S, the second entry in what Huawei now calls the Pocket series. As expected, the Pocket S is a less powerful version of the P50 Pocket, despite arriving nearly a year after the latter. Specifically, Huawei has replaced the Snapdragon 888 in the P50 Pocket with the Snapdragon 778G, which Qualcomm has now replaced with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
While the Snapdragon 778G belongs to the lesser Snapdragon 7 series, it only proves approximately 15% weaker in benchmarks. Additionally, the chipset is less power-hungry and should allow the Pocket S to run more efficiently than the P50 Pocket. Moreover, the Pocket S features a 6.9-inch foldable display and a 1.04-inch secondary display. Seemingly, Huawei has brought both displays across from the P50 Pocket, which also appears to be the case for its 4,000 mAh battery.
Likewise, the Pocket S has a 40 MP primary camera, a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 10.7 MP front-facing camera. In short, the Pocket S mirrors the P50 Pocket's camera system but without its 32 MP 'ultra spectrum camera'. As the marketing image below shows, Huawei has decided to offer the Pocket S in six colours. Also, the handset comes in 128 GB and 256 GB variants, with the former retailing for CNY 5,988 (~US$823). By contrast, Huawei charges CNY 6,488 (~US$891) for the 256 GB variant. Supposedly, Huawei will release a 512 GB edition at some point for CNY 7,488 (~US$1,023). However, the company has not listed this variant on its website yet. Like the Watch GT Cyber, Huawei has not confirmed whether it intends to offer the Pocket S outside China yet.
