ASUS has now started selling the Zenbook 17 Fold, an unusual laptop that we reviewed last month. To recap, the Zenbook 17 Fold takes on the second-generation ThinkPad X1 Fold. Specifically, both rely on Intel Alder Lake-U series processors, which ASUS pairs with a 17.3-inch OLED display in the case of the Zenbook 17 Fold.
Also on board is 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, a 1 TB SSD and a 75 Wh battery, plus a 3.5 mm headphone jack and twin Thunderbolt 4 ports. Meanwhile, the display itself outputs at 2,560 x 1,920 pixels and delivers up to 500 nits of peak brightness. In short, we found the Zenbook 17 Fold to be a much better option than the original ThinkPad X1 Fold, with good system performance, decent speakers and quiet fans. However, we were disappointed to see no maintenance options, a stylus, mobile connectivity options or a backlit keyboard.
Currently, the machine is pre-orderable in the US for US$3,499.99 before taxes. Unfortunately, B&H has not confirmed when pre-orders will start shipping. Alternatively, Notebooksbilliger sells the same configuration in the Eurozone for €3,699, including VAT and shipping. Purportedly, the latter retailer has Zenbook 17 Fold units in stock too, unlike its North American counterparts. Please see our review for our full thoughts on the Zenbook 17 Fold and how it fares in our benchmarks.
