Honor has launched the Magic Vs in China, a smartphone that the company claims ‘pushes industry benchmarks’ in not only design and performance, but also in user experience and display quality. Available from today in China for CNY 7,499 (~US$1,050), Honor has teased when the Magic Vs will be coming to markets, too.

Honor has announced the Magic Vs, a handset that builds on the Magic V in a few areas. The Magic Vs appears to retain its predecessor’s displays though, with a 6.45-inch cover and 7.9-inch foldable OLED displays that both operate at 90 Hz and 120 Hz, respectively. Surprisingly, the Magic Vs is over 20 g lighter than the Magic V and 2 g shy of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, although it still tips the scales at a hefty 261 g.

According to Honor, the Magic Vs measures 160.3 x 141.5 x 6.1 mm when unfolded, which changes to 160.3 x  72.6 x 12.9 mm in its folded state. In other words, the Magic Vs is about the same size as its predecessor and will be noticeably larger than the Galaxy Z Fold4. In short, Honor has upgraded the battery, cameras, chipset and OS from the Magic V, with the latter now on MagicOS 7.0 based on Android 12. The upgrades that the Magic Vs contains over the Magic V are as follows:

Honor Magic V Honor Magic Vs
Battery 4,750 mAh (66 W wired charging) 5,000 mAh battery (66 W wired charging)
Cameras 50 MP primary camera (f/1.9)
50 MP ultra spectrum camera (f/2.0)

42 MP front-facing camera
54 MP IMX800 primary camera (f/1.9)
50 MP ultra-wide-angle & macro camera (f/2.0)
8 MP 3X optical zoom camera (f/2.4)
16 MP front-facing camera (f/2.45)
SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1

Currently, Honor is only selling the Magic Vs in China, where it starts at CNY 7,499 (~US$1,050). However, the company has outlined that it plans to release the handset in Europe during Q1 2023. Other details about its global release remain unknown at this stage, although past Honor global smartphone launches suggest that the Magic Vs will arrive in Europe with one or two of its Black, Cyan and Orange colourways. Typically, Honor offers fewer storage configurations globally than in China too, with Honor bringing the following options to its home market:

  • 8 GB of RAM & 256 GB of storage
  • 12 GB of RAM & 256 GB of storage
  • 12 GB of RAM & 512 GB of storage
