Evan Blass has revealed details about ‘Penang5G’, an upcoming Motorola smartphone. Writing on Gadget Gang, Blass implies that Penang may be a North American exclusive, which often happens with Motorola smartphones. The smartphone may arrive in ‘Penang4G’ and ‘Penang+’ guises in other markets, although these could contain slightly different specifications too.
As for ‘Penang5G’, Blass reports that Motorola will offer the smartphone through all major US carriers, including Cricket, Dish and Tracfone. While the leaker has not revealed many specifications about ‘Penang5G’, the handset will be available with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage, plus two rear-facing cameras. The inclusion of a thick bottom display bezel suggests that ‘Penang5G’ will be a relatively cheap smartphone, likely a member of the Moto E series or a low-end Moto G model.
Unfortunately, it is unclear when ‘Penang5G’ will arrive beyond a vague suggestion of a release in 2023. Likewise, Blass has not outlined how much the smartphone will cost. The device should come in Basalt Blue and Opal Silver colourways though, with colour-matching frames and camera housings.
