Vivo's new X90 and X90 Pro series of premium smartphones has been unveiled with a top-end 1-inch sensor for a main camera, albeit only in the Pro model. The vanilla model has the same new display, ultra-fast charging and new processor as its higher-end siblings, however. It starts for less than US$520 in China.

Vivo has launched the new and extremely premium X90 Pro+ Android 13 smartphone with the latest top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor today. However, there is also an X90 and an X90 Pro ready to grab attention too with the potentially comparable MediaTek Dimensity 9200 in very similar updated designs.

The two non-Plus smartphones may not have anything like the latest cutting-edge E6 display technology; however, Vivo asserts that their new 6.78-inch FHD+ Q9 AMOLED panels from BOE are competitive enough, with their HDR10+ support, 120Hz refresh rate, 2160Hz PWM dimming and 1,300-nit brightness in the Pro's version.

The vanilla X90 also misses out on 1-inch mobile camera status, whereas the Pro pairs its on-trend main sensor with 2 kinds of auto-focus (phase-detect and laser) and OIS, not to mention a 50MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultrawide-angle shooter.

They are marketed as further enhanced with the V2 co-processor, which augments the Dimensity 9200's neural processing, performance and energy-efficiency while also delivering on the results of the OEM's branding partnership. It is found across the X90 range, even in the vanilla model.

Accordingly, even the X90 upgrades to new Zeiss Pixel Shift, Flare Portrait and Natural Color settings, not to mention the same T* coating found on the Pro variants' IMX989 sensor for its own main camera, a "VCS" version of the Sony IMX866 exclusive to Vivo. The X90 and X90 Pro also share 120W fast charging, although the Pro has additional 50W wireless charging capabilities to itself.

The X90, contrary to reports, is also the only member of the series to offer a 8GB RAM/128GB entry-level SKU, and to have 3 colorways to the Pro models' 2. It brings the X90's starting price down to 3,699 yuan (~US$517), whereas the Pro's 8/256GB base model is set at 4,999 yuan (~US$700). They can be pre-ordered from now in their initial Chinese market, without mention of international availability thus far.
