Vivo is now said to have begun work on a second-gen X Fold, a device believed to be the first of its kind to launch with the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor found in new flagships such as the OnePlus 11. That is not where the alleged significant upgrades end, either.

The first-gen X Fold and its iterative upgrade the X Fold+ can be said to have shot to the top of the foldable smartphone game on what is technically Vivo's first go at making such an Android device. However, their upcoming successor may go even farther in trying to blow competition like Samsung's putative Galaxy Z Fold5 in 2023.

In fact, according to the reliable leaker Digital Chat Station, the X Fold 2 (or, possibly, X Fold2), may upgrade to levels of performance and power out of reach of even the most advanced flexible-display devices of today.

Its putative 4,800mAh battery may not much of an advantage over that of the X Fold+ - however, it might charge a whole lot faster, at a rumored rate of 120 watts (W) - a first for its category in that it would finally match some conventional premium smartphones such as the Xiaomi 13 Pro and iQOO 11.

That putative upgrade might go nicely with its alleged status as the inaugural Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered foldable smartphone. Then again, Digital Chat Station has yet to hint at a launch date, price or the prospect of international availability this time for Vivo's rumored second-gen flagship-grade foldable phablet.
