Vivo "X Flip" touted to launch as an upcoming clamshell foldable Android smartphone with a high-end SoC
The market for the clamshell type of foldable smartphone is finally starting to warm up at the end of 2022, with new additions that, with some exceptions like Motorola's icon-rebooting Razr 22, are their respective maker's take on the product name "Flip", such as the newest addition to the OPPO Find N series.
With its potential advantages over the Galaxy Z Flip4 on paper and up-to-date processor, the N2 Flip seems poised to take over the Android clamshell market, starting with China for now. However, should a new leak from the famous tipster Digital Chat Station prove accurate, Vivo is coming to steal its thunder with a Flip of its own.
The Find N2 Flip is the world's first device of its form-factor with a secondary display in portrait mode. According to the alleged Vivo counterpart's initial schematic, it has one too, albeit in the opposite orientation. Then again, it still looks like it could be much bigger than that of the Z Flip4.
This display is seemingly found under a round rear camera hump quite like that of the new X90 series, underpinning rumors that it will launch as the "Vivo X Flip".
This putative smartphone has yet to be rendered from the front, although it is already said to run on the same Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC as the Z Flip4 (and, incidentally, the X Fold Plus).
There is no word on when this new putative member of the Vivo X line might arrive, although Digital Chat Station hints that Vivo may be advised not to wait too long before more competitive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-based foldables get here.
