POCO has now launched the C55, its latest entry-level smartphone. As expected, the POCO C55 is a re-badged Redmi 12C that Xiaomi has been selling in China for a few months at this point. Despite its name, the POCO C55 is only the third device that POCO has released in the C series after the POCO C31 and POCO C50.
At the heart of the POCO C55 sits a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 10 W charging and plays a part in the device's 168.76 x 76.41 x 8.7 mm and 192 g chassis. Additionally, the POCO C55 has a 6.71-inch IPS display that operates at 720p with a 60 Hz refresh rate, a 1,500:1 contrast ratio and a 120 Hz touch sampling rate. POCO intersects the large display with a 5 MP front-facing camera that sits behind a waterdrop notch, as well as 50 MP primary and 0.08 MP depth of field cameras.
Moreover, the POCO C55 has a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset and a choice between 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage or 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. For reference, both memory configurations support up to 1 TB of expandable storage via a MicroSD card reader. Unfortunately, the POCO C55 will ship with MIUI 13 for POCO based on Android 12, not MIUI 14 or Android 13.
The POCO C55 will be orderable from February 28 in Cool Blue, Forest Green and Power Black colourways. Initially, the smartphone will be exclusive to India and Flipkart, where it will cost INR 9,499 (~US$115) with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Please note that this price will eventually rise to INR 11,999 (~US$145) after POCO's pre-sale period ends. Similarly, while the 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage edition will launch for INR 10,999 (~US$133) but will move to INR 13,999 (~US$169). Neither Xiaomi nor POCO have confirmed pricing and availability in other markets yet.
