Redmi K60 and K60 Pro will debut as the first flagships of their line with wireless charging: new leak
Xiaomi's Redmi sub-brand has released K-series flagships that have often proven compelling alternatives in the premium Android smartphone world over the years. On the other hand, they have made some compromises in order to fit into a certain price-bracket; even the latest K50 Extreme Edition with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 passes on wireless charging in order to come in at just under ~US$450 at launch.
However, should a new and slightly cryptic leak from Digital Chat Station be interpreted correctly, that might be about to change in its immediate successors. It refers to a "series" of 2 devices known as S8, which could be the internal code-name for new Xiaomi devices.
Should this be the case, both are now tipped to launch with what looks like 2 different charging profiles: "67W+30W" and "120W+30W". Fans of Xiaomi charging tech will recognize the 2 larger values as a selection of its various in-house wired standards that, while particularly advanced in 1 case, have been around for several generations now.
Therefore, the "30W" spec that applies to both new "Redmi K" devices might refer to series-first wireless charging capabilities.
Accordingly, the new Weibo post can be taken to mean that a standard, possibly vanilla K60 will ship with 67W wired charging (again), while its more premium "K60 Pro" counterpart retains the 120W speed of its predecessor, yet shares a new 30W spec with its vanilla sibling. All the more reason to hope neither gets hit with the Dynamic Island stick in 2023, perhaps.
