Xiaomi has reportedly registered a new smartphone and a new tablet with the Chinese Ministry for Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), almost instantly sparking speculation that these new tips pertain to Redmi's highest-end phone of the year thus far and the Pad 5's successor respectively. They are also both now backed to launch in the second half of 2022.

The famous leaker Digital Chat Station claims to have spotted 2 new Xiaomi devices on the MIIT database. Neither of them gets a product name in this new Weibo post, although the new smartphone and tablet's model numbers do line up with earlier reports concerning the Redmi K50 Ultra and Pad 6, albeit to varying degrees.

The new Xiaomi phone has been registered as the 22081212C (although Digital Chat Station refers to it as the 22081212C-L12), which is very similar, but not identical, to another reportedly associated with the same "Ultra" variant.

The device is tipped to become the ultimate Redmi K50-series flagship due to its Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 platform, 50MP rear camera, (which according to the latest rumors, may or may not be the new Sony IMX866), and potentially advantageous battery specs.

As for the tablet, MIIT provisionally identifies it as the 22081281AC. However, Digital Chat Station again elaborates on this with an additional -L81AC suffix- within which the "L81" code-name previously linked to the Pad 6 can be picked out.

This putative Xiaomi tablet remains much more of a mystery, although the MIIT leak points to advanced tri-band Wi-Fi support, at least. Then again, it and its alleged Redmi companion in official testing are now slated to become a part of what the OEM has to show off in the second half of 2022 - which, according to Digital Chat Station, is "a lot".
