The Nintendo Switch 2's extra triggers are not input buttons

The Nintendo Switch 2 comes with lots of design changes, but one change believed to be new input buttons on the Joy-Con controllers is actually not what many thought it is. New official info has now revealed what the buttons actually do.

Just as leaked renders showed, the official reveal video of the Nintendo Switch 2 confirmed the presence of an additional button next to ZR and ZL buttons on the right and left Joy-Con respectively. While there were speculations the triggers are additional input controls, a video on Nintendo's site has revealed that isn't the case.

Apparently, the triggers or buttons are not for input but are actually release buttons that allow users to disconnect the Joy-Con controllers from the Nintendo Switch 2. The original Switch (curr. available on Amazon for $279.99) had similar buttons but they were round in shape and much smaller, so it is understandable why many presumed these were input buttons.

Nevertheless, the bigger release buttons should make it easier to detach the Joy-Con controllers on the Nintendo Switch 2.

In addition to the redesigned release buttons, the Nintendo Switch 2 has larger Joy-Con controllers to match the larger screen. It also has a redesigned kickstand, a USB-C port at the top, and a redesigned dock.

Nintendo has confirmed that more details will be revealed at a Nintendo Direct in April. There will also be a hands-on experience for those who sign up for it shortly after the launch.
