Anbernic has just launched the RG34XX SP globally, full launch details of which we have covered separately. For context, Anbernic's latest release arrived in the wake of the Miyoo Flip, which soon could be complemented by a more compact 'Mini Flip'. Thus, it seems the RG34XX SP is Anbernic's attempt to reassert its dominance within the clamshell gaming handheld market after last year's RG35XX SP (curr. $84.98 on Amazon).
As it turns out, Powkiddy may not be far behind either, having teased the V90S earlier this week. To recap, both Powkiddy and Taki Udon hinted earlier this week that the long-awaited V90 successor was almost ready to be released. However, neither confirmed any specifications, let alone a release date.
While the latter still remains unknown, Powkiddy has offered some clarity about the former. As expected, the V90S leverages an Allwinner A133P chipset used in an increasing number of retro gaming handhelds. Paired with 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, the Allwinner A133P should see the V90S mirroring the performance levels that other clamshell gaming handhelds provide like the RG34XX SP, RG35XX SP and Miyoo Flip, among others.
On top of that, the V90S features a 3.5-inch display that resolves at 640 x 480 pixels in a 4:3 aspect ratio, compared to the 320 x 240-pixel panel found in the V90. As a result, Powkiddy's next clamshell gaming handheld should provide an exact 2x integer scale of many classic consoles. Surprisingly, it looks as though Powkiddy has decided against including a 3.5 mm jack. Instead, the V90S finds itself with two USB Type-C ports and a single microSD card reader. Please see the videos below for more details.
