AYANEO has finally launched the FLIP series, which consists of the FLIP DS and the cheaper FLIP KB. Both built around 7-inch and 120 Hz displays, the two gaming handhelds come with a choice of AMD Ryzen 7 APUs, plus three memory configurations and AYANEO's new large vapour chamber cooling system.

The AYANEO FLIP series is now up for pre-order globally, shortly after the company started selling the AM02 mini-PC. While it only took AYANEO about two months to release the AM02 after its initial showcase, the FLIP made its first public appearance in mid-2022. Since the, the AYANEO FLIP has undergone various changes, including the adoption of a second model with a secondary display.

As expected, the FLIP series arrives as the FLIP KB and FLIP DS, which AYANEO distinguishes from each other by their keyboard and secondary displays, respectively. Both devices feature the same underlying specifications though, as well as identical 650 g and 180 x 102 x 29.8 mm housings, or 37.5 mm when measuring from their grips. In summary, the FLIP KB and FLIP DS contain the following hardware:

Surprisingly, AYANEO has decided to offer the pair with AMD Ryzen 7 7840U and Ryzen 7 8840U APUs, despite their overarching similarities. In short, only 'Ryzen AI' separates the Ryzen 7 8840U from its predecessor, with an octa-core Zen 4 processor and a Radeon 780M iGPU all unchanged between generations. Moreover, all FLIP models will ship with LPDDR5X RAM, a PCIe 4.0 SSD, a 45 Wh battery and AYANEO's new 'large area' vapour chamber cooling system that has a 6,243 mm² volume. Please see our dedicated article for more details about the company's cooling method and a video of the company's CEO detailing the hardware.

On top of that, the AYANEO FLIP series sports an OCuLink (SFF-8612) port that delivers 64 Gbps effective bandwidth, plus a USB4 (40 Gbps) connection and a USB Type-C port for data transfer at up to 10 Gbps. The AYANEO FLIP series starts at $699 as the FLIP KB with a Ryzen 7 7840U APU, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage. By contrast, the FLIP DS costs $40 more than the FLIP KB across all configurations, resulting in a $739 starting pricing. Strictly speaking, the FLIP series consists of 12 SKUs up to the FLIP DS with a Ryzen 7 8840U, 64 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD. Currently, AYANEO hopes to begin shipping Ryzen 7 7840U units in March, with Ryzen 7 8840U models following a month later.
