No Arc Battlemage discrete GPUs for laptops per leaked internal document as Intel reportedly keeps OEMs in the dark
We reported earlier this month that Intel is hard at work developing software for the Arc Battlemage GPUs which signals that Team Blue’s next-gen dGPUs are coming. However, the news was soured by RedGamingTech’s report of Intel possibly canceling the flagship Arc Battlemage SKU due to profit margin concerns.
Unfortunately, Intel fans may have some more disappointing news to stomach as Moore’s Law Is Dead has now revealed an internal Intel document that lists Arc Battlemage discrete GPUs only for desktops and workstations. The document mentions that the “Battlemage cards will only be in an FRD (Form Factor Design) for desktop and workstation systems” and that “there will be no mobile (MRB) add-in video cards on the Battlemage product roadmap”.
In other words, the all-Intel system consisting of a Core Ultra CPU and an Arc Battlemage dGPU might not become a reality when Battlemage boards launch.
To elaborate more on the state of the Arc Battlemage for mobile, MLID allegedly talked to some laptop OEMs regarding the situation. All of the leaker’s OEM sources denied hearing anything about Battlemage with one source suggesting that “it’s already too late for us to have any notebook launch with Battlemage this year”. The OEM had supposedly already received “some details about RDNA 4 and Blackwell”.
Finally, one OEM/AIB even went as far as to say that Intel “will need to prove Battlemage lives up to the hype before we consider majorly supporting another ARC graphics generation again”.
Although Intel has released a bunch of mobile Arc Alchemist boards, laptops integrating these GPUs remain scarce. For instance, we only have two laptops in our database that utilize the mid-range Intel Arc A730M and one of the models is an Intel NUC. And while entry-level models like the Arc A370M and the Arc A350M have seen relatively wider adoption, their performance is nothing to get excited about.
So, even if Intel manages to get the Battlemage GPUs out for laptops, there is no guarantee that OEMs will actually build systems around the products which is already somewhat reflected in MLID’s report.
Before we wrap this up, it is important to mention that leaks of such nature should be treated as unofficial and likely to change, as we won’t know whether or not Intel plans to follow the Arc Alchemist mobile dGPUs with Battlemage until the company tells us so.
