Fiat 500e production to pause again due to sales problems

This is not the first time that Stellantis has temporarily suspended the manufacturing of vehicles at the plant, with similar action taken in October and November 2023. According to an earlier report, Stellantis had initially forecast the production of 90,000 units of the Fiat 500 Electric in 2023, but only 77,000 were made due to lower-than-expected demand.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has suggested that the lower sales volume in Italy was due to customers waiting for new government incentives for EV purchasers, which have yet to arrive despite being spoken of several times last year. The current proportion of electric vehicles sold in Italy is just 4%, far lower than the European average of 14%. Despite these figures, the Fiat 500e is the best-selling BEV in the small car segment in countries including Italy, Belgium, Spain and Germany, taking the second rank in France. It has also been implied that the launch of the Fiat 500e in the US, due at some point in the next few months, should help to boost this year's production volume.
