Amidst the ongoing silence from Rare regarding a new Banjo and Kazooie title, creators Eupholace and 1Collaborator have built Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania, a lovingly crafted fan project inside Dreams, Media Molecule’s user-generated game platform. The level channels everything you’d expect from Banjo-Kazooie: bright, colorful worlds, playful platforming, and nostalgic nods to the N64 classics, plus a few fresh twists to keep things surprising, like new transformations and mechanics.
Because it’s made within Dreams, there is a catch: you’ll need a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 and a copy of Dreams to check it out. But, if you already have those things on-hand, you can jump in right now and relive some old-school Rare magic brought to life by the passion of fans who clearly miss Banjo and Kazooie as much as the rest of us.
Will we ever see an official return? As of now there’s no confirmed new Banjo-Kazooie in development from Rare or its parent company. But for now, Mumbomania offers a delightful, nostalgic pit stop that proves the duo still has plenty of life left in them.
