Dying Light 2: Stay Human is set in the ruins of Villedor, one of the last major cities still inhabited by humans after the global outbreak of a zombie virus. Players take on the role of Aiden Caldwell, a “pilgrim” who travels through the devastated land in search of his missing sister. The game’s most distinctive feature is the shift between relative safety during the day and a brutal fight for survival at night. While parkour and exploration take center stage during daylight hours, after sunset hordes of mutated infected flood the streets, forcing players to rely on risky stealth strategies.
In terms of gameplay, Dying Light 2 combines fast-paced parkour sections with direct, hard-hitting close combat. Buildings, rooftops and makeshift pulleys enable spectacular movement sequences that strongly recall the classic Mirror’s Edge. When a direct confrontation with the infected becomes unavoidable, players turn to improvised weapons such as pipes, axes and machetes to keep the undead at bay. The combat system delivers a palpable sense of impact: well-placed strikes, quick dodges and perfectly timed counters often make the difference between victory and defeat. The Reloaded Edition adds firearms to the arsenal for the first time, though their use requires careful judgment – ammunition is scarce, and the noise inevitably draws entire hordes of zombies.
There are also numerous RPG systems: crafting, gear divided into rarity tiers, faction bonuses, and two skill trees for parkour and combat. Combined with the co-op mode for up to four players, this creates an expansive sandbox in which player choices have a tangible impact on quests, factions and even the development of the city itself.
In its German review, PC Games praised Dying Light 2: Stay Human for its fluid parkour system, immersive world and intense melee combat. The game also earned points for its meaningful choices and well-executed co-op mode. On the downside, the story was viewed as underwhelming, with a somewhat flat main character and shallow RPG elements. Despite these flaws, PC Games gave the game a solid 8 out of 10.
Dying Light 2 has seen steady ratings across other platforms as well. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 76 and a slightly lower User Score of 7.2. The response on Steam is similar, with 79% of more than 200,000 player reviews being positive.
