Anbernic has announced launch pricing and a release date for its latest compact gaming handheld. Arriving later this week for under $50, the Anbernic RG28XX contains an Allwinner H70 chipset, 1 GB of RAM and a 2.8-inch display for a pocket gaming experience on the go.

Retro Game Corps has revealed launch pricing for the RG28XX, less than a fortnight after Anbernic first showcased the device. Of late, the company has focused on releasing 3.5-inch gaming handhelds, most recently with the RG35XX 2024. The RG28XX is the company's first model with a 2.8-inch display since the RG280M (curr. $69.99 on Amazon) though, which followed on from the RG280V.

The RG28XX will eventually retail for $47.99 on Anbernic's website. However, the company will offer the device at $43.99, an 8% saving, when sales open on April 25 at 10:00 UTC. By default, the RG28XX will ship with a 64 GB microSD card. Alternatively, it will be possible to pick up the device for $58.99 with 64 GB and 128 GB MicroSD cards, down from its $62.99 retail price.

As expected, Anbernic will sell the RG28XX in Beige White, Black Transparent, Grey and Lava finishes. Based on Retro Game Corps' early review, the RG28XX is powerful enough to emulate up to Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast games. Moreover, its Allwinner H700 chipset and 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM will handle some simple PlayStation Portable (PSP) games. Please see Anbernic's website for more details.
