AYANEO Pocket S: Product launch event date revealed for new Android gaming handheld
It may have taken eight months, but AYANEO has finally set a release date for the Pocket S. For context, the company has offered up various Windows-based gaming handhelds and mini-PCs so far, most recently with a refreshed version of its AM01 mini-PC. Conversely, the Pocket S would only be its second Android gaming handheld after the Pocket Air that it started selling in September 2023.
To recap, the company hinted in mid-February that the Pocket S would debut in April 2024. Although AYANEO has not provided any more release details in the interim, it continues to tease the Pocket S on its social media accounts. Likewise, AYANEO has already confirmed that the device will be sold through Indiegogo, at least initially. Now, it has revealed that it will host a Pocket S launch event on April 26, starting at 12:00 UTC.
While the screenshot below implies that the Pocket S will be orderable on April 26, recent AYANEO product releases suggest otherwise. Potentially, the company's April 26 event may only serve as a full product reveal, which AYANEO is yet to do. Alternatively, it could share launch pricing, which remains one of the missing pieces in the Pocket S puzzle. With that being said, early independent benchmark videos suggest that the Pocket S can easily emulate Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2 games thanks to its Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset, which AYANEO complements with a 1440p display, plus up to 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD.
