AYANEO Pocket S delivers stellar Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2 performance in early videos before April release
We have now entered the apparent release month of the AYANEO Pocket S, which the company outlined at the start of February 2024. Officially, AYANEO has not provided any launch details since. However, the frequency with which it teases the Pocket S on its social media accounts implies that the device is close to being released.
In the meantime, ETA Prime and Retro Game Corps have highlighted how well the Pocket S can emulate multiple systems in separate videos. In short, both consider the Pocket S to be exceptional in this regard, with Retro Game Corps going as far to claim that the Pocket S is a 'flagship Android handheld'. To that end, the device can emulate PlayStation 2 at 3x or 3.5x native resolution, even on titles that are typically difficult to emulate.
Likewise, it is possible to push GameCube and 3DS games to 3x native resolution while maintaining full speed. Better still, ETA Prime has demonstrated the Pocket S hitting 4x when running Wii games or 5x for advanced PlayStation Portable (PSP) titles. Ultimately, all this is possible thanks to the device's Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, which features an Adreno A32 GPU and should be about 20% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that powers that AYN Odin2. Presumably, AYANEO will share full Pocket S specifications later this month, as well as launch pricing details.
