The company behind the ZPG A1 Unicorn has commented on the gaming handheld's apparent global availability. Reportedly, the future Powkiddy RGB30 rival will officially go on sale later this month, likely for less than a third-party reseller has already listed the device, too.

The apparent launch of the ZPG A1 Unicorn has sparked pushback by the company behind the gaming handheld. To recap, Z-Pocket Game (ZPG) announced the A1 Unicorn in November 2023 but has said nothing about the device since. Then, earlier this week the gaming handheld popped up on AliExpress, which was jumped on by various sources.

However, the likes of Retro Handhelds and Retro Dodo subsequently noticed that the A1 Unicorn was not being sold by ZPG directly. Instead, the device was being offered by a third-party that apparently has no affiliation with ZPG. Z-Pocket Game has since confirmed this itself online and implored fans to subscribe to its website for notifications when the A1 Unicorn is ready to order. Unfortunately, the company has not provided a timescale in this regard.

Nonetheless, Retro Handhelds has provided more clarity on the situation. According to the website, a representative of RetroCN has informed it that an official listing is forthcoming. Specifically, ZPG plans to bring the A1 Unicorn to AliExpress at the end of this month, likely hitting a lower price point, too. As far as we can tell, the specifications currently listed on AliExpress are accurate though and include the following hardware:

  • MediaTek Helio G99 SoC
  • 4-inch display, 720 x 720 pixels, 1:1 aspect ratio
  • 6 GB RAM
  • 4,500 mAh battery (18 W charging)
