Ayaneo reveals details of new Android gaming handheld set to rival the Ayn Odin2
Ayaneo has now confirmed more device specifications for the Pocket S, over five months after it first teased the device. To recap, the company revealed initial details about the Pocket S towards the end of August 2023, such as the presence of a Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset. Subsequently, it has shared device renders, as well as gameplay footage that it delivered in late 2023. In summary, Ayaneo has now outlined the following new specifications:
- 6-inch IPS display, 2,560 x 1,440, 400 nits
- Up to 16 GB RAM/1 TB storage
- 15 W SOC TDP
Overall, the Ayaneo Pocket S is shaping up to be an Ayn Odin2 rival, another 6-inch gaming handheld that utilises the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Theoretically, the Pocket S should be about 20% faster than the Odin2, although this is only Qualcomm's official estimate. At any rate, the Pocket S will be significantly more powerful than the Pocket Air, which Ayaneo sells with a Dimensity 1200 chipset.
Currently, the company expects to provide more Pocket S details in April. However, it also hoped to launch the Pocket S in December 2023, so we would take suggestions that Ayaneo will release the Pocket S in April 2024 with a healthy amount of scepticism for the time being. Either way, the gaming handheld's Indiegogo campaign is already available to view in preview mode.
