After the breakaway success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Xbox has stealthily announced a remake of yet another classic: Gears of War. Dubbed as Gears of War: Reloaded, it brings the legendary game up to speed with modern hardware.
And the best part is, anyone who owned the original Gears of War: Ultimate Edition digitally gets a free upgrade to the remastered version. Better yet, Gears of War: Reloaded is also available on the PlayStation 5- complete with a PS5 Pro Enhanced tag. Cross-play is available across all platforms, and it doesn't require a Microsoft account, although if you do create one, your progress carries over across devices.
Gears of War: Reloaded adds modern-day conveniences such as 4K 60 FPS gameplay (120 FPS in multiplayer), HDR, new textures, spatial audio, Dolby Atmos, and more. Like Oblivion, it will cost $40 (or equivalent) across all platforms and include all online and offline DLCs. And yes, it will be playable day-one (August 26) on Xbox Game Pass.
Another notable detail highlighted in the headline is "Xbox PC". This is one of the first times that Microsoft has used that term specifically. Now, it could simply allude to the fact that a PC falls under the Xbox umbrella. But, the more imaginative among the community suggest this heralds the arrival of an Xbox-branded handheld that has been talked about multiple times in the past few months.
