8BitMods has opened pre-orders for the VMU Pro, having unveiled the Sega Dreamcast accessory only a few days ago. For context, the VM2 from Dreamware Enterprises already exists as a Visual Memory Unit (VMU) for the modern era. However, the VMU Pro expands upon the original VMU and VM2 in several areas.
For instance, the VMU Pro has a 16-bit colour IPS display rather than the monochrome alternativees found in the VMU and VM2. Also, the new accessory supports up to 2 TB microSD cards, which 8BitMods describes as 'endless storage for [the] Dreamcast'. The VMU Pro boasts up to 6 hours of battery life too with support for USB Type-C charging and data transfer.
On top of that, the VMU Pro can also be used to emulate other consoles from the 8-bit era, like the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The new accessory masters Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi connectivity too, as well as pairing multiple VMU Pro units together for use with certain Dreamcast games. Currently, the VMU Pro can be ordered from 8BitMods for $81.23 in seven colour options with shipments set for November 2025. Please see 8BitMods' website for more details.
