A few years have passed since Dreamware Enterprises released the VM2 as an updated version of the Visual Memory Unit (VMU) for the Sega Dreamcast. To recap, the company marketed the VM2 as a 'total reproduction and upgrade' of the original VMU with upgrades like a higher resolution display, MicroSD card expansion and a high-capacity battery.
However, the VM2 is not the only reimagination of the Dreamcast's infamous accessory. As the embedded tweet below shows, 8BitMods is preparing to release the VMU Pro, which it has been teasing from early 2023 onwards. While the VM2 sought to build on the VMU, the VMU Pro takes things a step further.
According to 8BitMods, the VMU Pro is powerful enough to emulate 8-bit era games from consoles like the Game Boy, NES and Master System. Equipped with a 16-bit IPS display, the VMU Pro is also said to offer Wi-Fi connectivity and 'unlimited storage'. 8BitMods will open pre-orders for the VMU Pro on May 15; hopefully, the company will reveal full details about its Dreamcast accessory then too.
