Game animator Mike York has shared his thoughts on Crimson Desert and its potential. He believes that the game could keep players hooked for 1,000s of hours, and that it could be a great game to get lost in like Red Dead Redemption 2.

GTA 6 may still be far away but another massive game has been the talk of the town more recently, especially because its releasing in a few weeks. Crimson Desert is Pearl Abyss’ next AAA title that has been in the making for at least six years, but will finally reach the public on March 19. The team has been showing off some of the features, storyline, and mechanics of the game, and the videos show a lot of potential, so much so that a game developer thinks it could be game of the year, rather than GTA 6.

In his latest YouTube video, Mike York (York Street Gaming) looked at the last features overview video for Crimson Desert. York has been working as an animator for about 20 years and has contributed to games like God of War Ragnarok, GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Uncharted 2, Mortal Kombat 11, and more. In his analysis of the Crimson Desert video titled ‘Life in Pywell,’ York was wowed by the amount of depth and freedom the game presents.

Appreciating not just the visuals, but also the vast amount of content available, York stated that Crimson Desert can be game of the year, that is if GTA 6 “drops the ball.” The latter has been delayed twice already, and is set to release in November this year, if there are no more delays. Comparing it to Red Dead Redemption 2, he believes Crimson Desert could get players hooked for 100s if not 1,000s of hours. “This game has a ton of potential,” York added. He went on to say that this could be a really great game to get lost in.

As mentioned earlier, Crimson Desert comes out March 19 and is available for pre-order on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Recently, the developers explained that it will not have any microtransactions, which be a first for the studio. It is priced at $70 for the standard edition and $80 for the deluxe edition.
