The ESRB has published a new rating entry for Red Dead Redemption that lists PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series consoles as supported platforms. This is the same 2010 action-adventure title released on PS3 and Xbox 360, later re-released for PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023, and finally made available on PC for the first time on October 29, 2024. The newly updated rating page suggests that Rockstar Games may be preparing another round of ports for current-generation hardware.
The listing includes an “M for Mature 17+” classification with descriptors such as Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content and Use of Drugs. What stands out is the platform section, which explicitly names PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series systems. The ESRB clearly mentions zombies as in-game enemies, further confirming that the rating is for Red Dead Redemption 1 and its Undead Nightmare DLC campaign.
Rating-board entries of this kind typically appear only after publishers submit a build for certification. In the past, multiple unannounced releases have surfaced first through ESRB or PEGI listings before official confirmation. However, Rockstar has not yet commented on any new ports or enhancements for Red Dead Redemption on newer consoles.
If accurate, these platforms would bring native versions of the game to current-generation PlayStation and Xbox hardware, and mark its debut on Nintendo’s next-generation Switch 2. Pricing, release dates and technical upgrades are not mentioned in the rating.
While this may be good news for some, especially Xbox owners who never received the earlier Red Dead Redemption 1 port, most players have been waiting for a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S version of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Several earlier leaks have also pointed toward an imminent RDR 2 next-gen port. However, with this latest ESRB rating, it seems many fans may have to recalibrate their expectations. In other news, Rockstar was recently criticized for alleged union-busting at its UK studios, which some speculate may have contributed to delays surrounding its most anticipated release, Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI).
While Rockstar may not have any new announcements related to RDR 2 in the near future, modders have recently attempted to bring RDR 1’s Mexico map into RDR 2, which you can check out here.
