Switch 2 hits 17.37 million sales in seven months as Nintendo reveals top games

Nintendo recently published its results for the first three quarters of the current financial year, covering 1 April to 31 December 2025. This report underscores one point in particular: The Nintendo Switch 2 (approx. $449 on Amazon) has been a runaway hit, selling 17.37 million units between its June launch and the end of December.
Nintendo has therefore raised its sales forecast by 25% to 19 million units for the financial year ending 31 March. The hybrid console’s strong performance helped lift Nintendo’s sales by 99.3% to ¥1.9 trillion (approx. US$12.2 billion) in the first three quarters, whilst profit rose 51.3% to ¥358.8 billion (approx. US$2.3 billion).
Despite being a last-gen console, the original Switch still managed to sell 3.25 million units – a 66% drop compared with the same period last year. Nintendo sold a total of 146.9 million games, 37.93 million of which were specifically optimised for the Switch 2.
Mario Kart World was by far the best-selling title with 14.03 million copies sold, followed by Pokémon Legends: Z-A at 12.3 million. Both games likely benefited from being included in official console bundles. Interestingly, despite its technical issues (discussed in the Digital Foundry video below), the version for the original Switch accounted for 8.41 million units of Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s total sales.
