After 16 long years, numerous leaks, rumors, and delays, Fable has finally been announced. The upcoming title is a reboot of the franchise and will arrive in Autumn this year. While Playground Games have not shared an exact release date, the game has been confirmed to release on Xbox platforms, PC, and PS5. Now, new information has surfaced claiming the game may also be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
On January 22 (yesterday), Xbox hosted its Developer Direct 2026 livestream where it showed off gameplay for Fable. It does not have a number attached to it, and is instead of reboot of the franchise that saw its last instalment, Fable III, in 2010. Till then, it was an Xbox and Windows exclusive, but things are going to change this time around. Industry insider and editor at Windows Central, Jez Corden, says Fable is being considered for the Switch 2.
Through the X post, Corden didn’t share much, and also clarified that the game’s Switch 2 existence is not 100% confirmed. In a response to a comment, Corden added that the Switch 2 version is not in development right now, but he personally believes it will happen, some day. What’s certain is that it will not arrive on release day, unlike the PS5 version.
The gameplay shown during the Developer Direct event looked quite impressive. Albion, the fictional world of Fable, will be open world and include some of the iconic locations like the Fair Fax Castle, the clocktower, and the Hero’s Guild. Some returning and new enemies were showcased as well. For now, Playground Games only has a release window for Fable, putting it somewhere between September and December. You can watch the full event below, with the official Fable reveal starting at the 37:20 mark.
