After finally seeing Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade Switch 2 and Xbox ports, its follow-up is already lurking. A respected leaker anticipates Final Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth shipping in 2026. The trilogy’s second part is more resource-hungry, posing problems for the memory-limited systems.

Even though Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade just launched on the Switch 2 and Xbox, the next chapter may debut soon after. Trusted leaker NateTheHate2 provided an update about the Square Enix game on social media. He believes Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will surface in 2026 for the systems. However, developers may have to overcome some technical limitations first.

The insider also gave positive news on the Switch 2 version, after claiming it would arrive at a similar time in 2025. Square Enix hasn’t announced an official Rebirth release date for Nintendo or Microsoft consoles. With the publisher’s new strategy, it’s striving to promptly ship each installment across all platforms.

Ahead of the Remake Intergrade release, much of the focus was on how the game would perform on Nintendo’s handheld. Even so, as director Naoki Hamaguchi explained in a GamesRadar article, Xbox Series S memory limitations were also a roadblock. 10GB of unified RAM on the lower-end console often necessitates some creative optimization.

How might Rebirth perform on the Series S?

Any Series X title must cater to its more affordable cousin. Fortunately, initial impressions are favorable on all gaming systems. Series S owners can choose between a 1080p/60fps performance mode and a 30fps alternative that renders at around 1440p. That said, Final Final 7 Rebirth introduces new challenges.

Unlike its predecessor, Rebirth takes place in open-world settings that tax hardware. In 2024, day-one PS5 gamers complained about blurry textures with the 60fps option. Meanwhile, combat felt choppy in the higher resolution 30fps graphics mode, making the PS5 Pro version more appealing. Patches have improved the situation somewhat on the PS5 and the 2025 PC port.

Hamaguchi has tasked separate teams to work on different platforms. That should allow the developers to address issues specific to the less powerful Xbox Series S and Switch 2. Regardless, some tricky optimization awaits before the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth release date.
