New rumors surrounding a potential remake of Resident Evil 0 have come to light after the discovery of a mysterious entry in actor Jon McLaren’s online resume, hinting at his involvement in an unannounced AAA title codenamed “Project Chamber.”
McLaren is best known for voicing Star-Lord in 2021’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and appearing in games like Far Cry 5. He has recently listed Project Chamber under his acting credits as an upcoming lead role, with performance capture handled by Beyond Capture Studios, the same company that provided casting, mocap, and performance services for Capcom’s 2023 Resident Evil 4 Remake and its Separate Ways DLC.
This connection has led to speculation that Project Chamber is a direct nod to Rebecca Chambers from Resident Evil 0, one of the game’s dual protagonists. McLaren’s resemblance to Billy Coen also makes him the perfect fit for the role of Billy.
The leak was first reported by MP1st, lending credence to earlier claims from leaker Dusk Golem, who last year asserted that remakes of both Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica were in active development.
Resident Evil 0 was originally released as a Nintendo GameCube exclusive in 2002, acting as a prequel to the first game, where S.T.A.R.S. medic Rebecca Chambers teams up with Billy Coen to uncover Umbrella Corporation’s secrets.
The Resident Evil 0 remake was expected to release in early 2026, but with no announcement in sight, it seems Capcom has shifted its priorities. The company has switched gears for Resident Evil Requiem’s release, scheduling it for February 2026, and a rumored Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake is slated for the first quarter of 2027.
Rumors circulating online report that the remake has been in development at Capcom’s internal studio for several years, with voice acting and performance capture happening in 2024, positioning the game for a 2028 release.
The project is expected to adopt a more cinematic approach, updated visuals, and overhauled mechanics, similar to what we’ve seen with the latest lineup of Resident Evil remakes.
In July 2023, Capcom addressed questions about expanding remakes beyond the main numbered entities in a Q&A shareholder session and stated it was “carrying out discussions regarding the future expansion of this series so it can be enjoyed by a wide audience.”
