A recent Reddit thread suggests that a simple "pretty please?" might be all it takes for Valve to bend its own rules – and that’s part of what makes Steam so beloved among gamers.

When it comes to PC gaming, Steam is the undisputed number one marketplace – and for good reason. Valve not only offers an enormous game library but also stands out for its remarkably user-friendly support. A recent example comes from Reddit user u/BabaYodaTheFirst, whose thread, fittingly titled "I can't believe this worked," quickly gained attention.

In this case, the player had purchased a game from the Like a Dragon series – presumably Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth – and spent around six hours playing before the game went on sale shortly afterward. Steam’s official policy only allows refunds within 14 days and for under two hours of playtime, so his initial request was denied. Instead of accepting the decision, however, he followed up with another message – this time jokingly adding a “pretty please?” – and to his surprise, the refund was approved.

In the comments, thousands praised the story as a perfect example of Valve’s goodwill. Many users chimed in to share their own positive experiences with Steam support. One recalled how a staff member approved a refund even after the deadline had passed – simply because they were familiar with the game in question. Another said they had switched entirely from PlayStation to Steam due to the noticeably better customer service. While Sony refused a refund just ten minutes after purchase, Steam handled their request with understanding even after four hours of play.

The Reddit thread also highlights just how much a polite tone can matter when dealing with support. Many users echoed the same sentiment: “Be nice, and good things happen.” Unlike cold, automated ticket systems, Steam Support often feels personal and human. If you’ve had your own experiences with Steam Support, feel free to share them in the comments below.
