VGC has spotted the increased prices on Target but they seem to have been reverted. Per the publication, the Switch will go up by $40, the Switch OLED by $50, and the Switch Lite by $30.
Original article continues as follows:
With the Nintendo Switch 2’s commercial success and impressive sales numbers, Nintendo has been able to avoid jacking up the price to counter tariffs and ongoing market conditions. However, the same can’t be said for the original Switch family of handhelds as the company has announced a price hike, but by exactly how much is unclear at this point. The same was carried out for the Canadian market towards the end of June.
Announced on the news section of the Nintendo US website, a short update states that pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and products will change “based on market conditions.” The products affected will be Nintendo Switch OELD, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch accessories.
While the Nintendo Switch 2, its games, and online membership prices are unaffected at this point, some Switch 2 accessories, select amiibo, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo will also go up in price.
As of now, it is unclear how much of a difference these price adjustments will make but the changes will take effect from August 3. The new prices will be updated on the US store. This isn’t as surprising since Nintendo did the same thing with Canadian pricing back in June. The reason was the same back then as the Trump administration had announced halting trade talks with Canada.
According to Nintendo’s data up till June 30, the original Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite have reached over 153 million unit sales since launch. The Switch launched in March of 2017, followed by the Switch Lite in September 2019, and the Switch OLED in October 2021.
