The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to expand its catalog of video games, much to the delight of gamers around the world. And recently, at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, a game made its surprise appearance.
And it was Square Enix itself who decided to unveil this new title. After the success of the two Octopath Travelers, it's now Octopath Traveler 0's turn to make its arrival on the new console. However, there are a number of changes to report.
The story will be entirely new, allowing players to immerse themselves in a surprising and gripping storyline. For example, you'll play as a character who sets out to restore his hometown after it has been completely destroyed.
But as you can imagine, various dangers will stand in your way, including powerful enemies that you'll need to defeat in order to continue your adventure. The new game features a turn-based combat system, with a wide choice of character abilities. What's more, you'll have to traverse a divided world that's full of twists and turns, and in which you'll have to overcome a number of challenges that will sometimes make you cringe.
As for the game's graphics and visual rendering, it's no different from previous titles in the franchise. The HD-2D style offers a gentle blend of retro pixel-art and modern graphics. The scenery features a wide range of details, allowing you to admire a lively world, whatever the time or place. Last but not least, the lighting is also well realized and offers depth.
Note that Octopath Traveler 0 is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2025, so you'll have plenty of time to play it. And if you only have the first Nintendo Switch, and not the second, you'll be able to play it too. But you'll have to expect a less pleasant visual experience due to the technical characteristics of this console. Finally, this game is already available for pre-order on the Square Enix website for $49.99.
