Fans of survival horror titles should enjoy the next round of PlayStation Plus games. Well-regarded leaker billbil-kun has learned that Alan Wake 2 will be part of the October collection. PS Plus Essential and above tiers can download the game from October 7th to November 4th.
According to the Dealabs Magazine article, Sony should make the announcement official by October 1st. However, the September 24th State of Play could also reveal the new PlayStation Plus games earlier than usual. Unfortunately, billbil-kun can’t confirm the two other titles that will join Alan Wake 2 during the Halloween month.
Bound to attract new subscribers, the game is currently available for $59.99 on the PlayStation Store, with an optional trial. While two expansion packs are for sale, it’s uncertain if the PS Plus release will include more than just the base game. Introducing ray tracing that raises performance concerns, the title is not an option for PS4 owners.
How else Alan Wake 2 differs from the original
After the success of its 2010 predecessor, Alan Wake 2 debuted on consoles and PCs in 2023. It holds an 89 Metacritic rating, building on the psychological terror of the first title. The most notable change is a shift to survival horror game mechanics. Players must manage an inventory system and conserve resources to defeat enemies hiding in the darkness.
While free for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers, Alan Wake 2 is also part of a recent Humble Bundle deal. For a minimum $27 donation, PC gamers can experience the original, as well as eight other Remedy Entertainment favorites like Max Payne.
PS4 and PS5 users can still take advantage of the September PlayStation Plus games until October 7th. Although the selection didn’t thrill everyone, Stardew Valley, Psychonauts 2, and Viewfinder are available.
