New reports confirm that Costco has stopped selling the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles in the United States and the United Kingdom. This development came to light when gamers began noticing the absence of Xbox products on Costco’s shelves and websites, prompting users to dig deeper and find out that Costco had stopped selling Xbox hardware as early as August 6, 2025.
A spokesperson from a UK Costco store told GamesIndustry.biz during a visit on September 24, 2025, “We don’t actually have the Xbox anymore.”
Similarly, independent journalist Destin Legarie, formerly of IGN, contacted Costco customer service and received confirmation that the retailer “will no longer be carrying Xbox consoles,” and explained it as “a business decision” with no plans to restock Xbox hardware in the future.
Legarie shared further details in a post on X on September 25, stating, “Just called Costco on Xbox stock. I was told they will no longer be carrying Xbox consoles. ‘We don’t have any plans going forward to carry an Xbox console.’ Saying. It was a business decision. They did say they have some great deals on Switch and PlayStation, though.”
This corroborates GamesIndustry.biz’s report in the UK, while PlayStation and Nintendo Switch consoles are still available for purchase. Wayback Machine archives further indicate that as recently as June 11, 2025, the Xbox Series X was available on Costco’s UK website.
What’s strange about the whole situation is that neither Costco nor Microsoft has stated the reason behind the decision, leaving industry watchers and gamers to wonder what happened behind closed doors.
This change couldn’t be worse for Xbox hardware, which has struggled with hardware sales this year. The Xbox Series S|X sales have cumulatively been down 30% compared to May 2024, while PS5 sales went up by 3% in the same period.
However, this change seems to be specific to Costco retailers based in the U.S. and U.K., as Costco Canada still sells carry Xbox consoles, but they are currently reported to be out of stock. With Xbox prices expected to go up the coming month, this could possibly be the first retailer resisting the price change on an already poorly-selling lineup of hardware from Microsoft.
On the other end of the spectrum, Microsoft is expanding its territory in the handheld space with the upcoming Asus ROG Xbox Ally X priced at $999 and the base ROG Xbox Ally at $599, with pre-orders open and availability slated for next month.
