Best Buy's tentative pricing puts the ROG Xbox Ally at $599.99 and Ally X at $999.99 ahead of preorders going live. This is drawing a fair amount of criticism from the community. However, these prices could be merely placeholders.
New screenshots from Best Buy have just showed up on Reddit - and they show potential pricing for the upcoming Asus ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handhelds - $599.99 and $999.99, respectively. Understandably, these listings are currently drawing a lot of of attention across Reddit, but it is unconfirmed if these are genuine launch prices or simply placeholder numbers before an official announcement. When we checked the Best Buy website for the same info, however, the prices weren't visible.
Both the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X and the standard ROG Xbox Ally are still marked as "coming soon". These figures surfaced only hours before the anticipated official reveals by Asus and Microsoft. These listings may not be final, as retailers often use provisional pricing until manufacturers provide the real numbers. The absence of an official statement from Asus or Xbox at the time of this reporting means that "placeholder" is still a valid interpretation.
Reaction to the $1,000 tag on the Ally X has been particularly harsh. Some comments are describing this probable price point as "DOA" (dead on arrival) if true. The consensus seems to be that such handhelds will serve a very specific, niche audience. Unless Asus can justify the premium price, most buyers will balk.

Past coverage, corroborated by international retailers like Argos in the UK, had listed the Ally X closer to £900 ($1,140 USD) and the base Ally around £500 ($667 USD). Meanwhile, as per other reports, the U.S. SKUs would launch cheaper ($550 for the Ally and $900 for the Ally X), but Best Buy’s listings indicate otherwise.
Until Asus or Xbox provides a formal announcement, consumers should take this pricing info with a grain of salt, especially considering an official MSRP reveal isn't too far off at the time of writing.
