With the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally finally up for pre-order, scalpers have already begun driving its prices up to as high as $2,500. On the flip side, one Reddit user has already received their unit three weeks early. u/Technical_Fun77 has stated they are from Belgium and that the console was ordered from Amazon France.
While the user didn't post much in the way of detailed benchmarks, they state, on average, the Ryzen Z2 Extreme offers a 5-10 FPS advantage over the Ryzen Z1 Extreme. In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the ROG Xbox Ally X could outpot 47 FPS at 'High' settings with XeSS switched on at 1080p. At 900p, that figure increased to 56 FPS and 86 FPS with Lossless Scaling Frame generation.
As an Unreal Engine 5 game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the more demanding titles to launch this year, and the fact that it achieves playable framerates on a handheld is nothing short of impressive. The TDP sweet spot seems to be 17-25 Watts for optimal battery life. Lastly, the user calls the Xbox's full-screen experience "really disturbing at first" but says it gets better with time.
The ROG Xbox Ally X above is likely running pre-production software and likely not performing to spec. Still, maintaining 60 FPS at 1080p at 'High' settings will be tricky for most titles, and gamers will, more often than not, rely on AI upscalers to make up for the performance gap.
