Lenovo confirms overclocked flagship SoC for upcoming OLED Legion gaming tablet

Last month, Lenovo announced a new small-sized Legion gaming tablet, the Y700 Infinite. It was expected to stand as a more compact version of the regular Y700 Gen 5 but with cellular connectivity, and the company has just revealed the SoC that will be powering the tab.
The Legion Y700 Infinite is now confirmed to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Lenovo highlights that it's not the regular version of the SoC. Instead, the max CPU clock speed is set at 4.74GHz, matching the Leading Version or the "for Galaxy" version of the chipset.
This overclocked flagship SoC could be a problem if Lenovo doesn't implement a proper cooling setup inside. The RedMagic Astra 2, which comes with an active cooler, has the non-overclocked variant. That means the upcoming Legion Y700 Infinite will be more powerful if the thermals are managed well.
Lenovo has further confirmed that the SoC will be paired with UFS 4.1 "Pro" storage and LPDDR5T RAM. They are said to be tuned for performance, making the upcoming Legion tablet well-equipped to compete against the RedMagic Astra 2.
Other details of the gaming tablet haven't been officially revealed yet, but the Legion Y7000 Infinite is expected to feature an OLED display, an upgrade over the Tab Gen 5 (curr. $699.99 on Lenovo). Previously shared pictures revealed that there will be a camera cutout on the top, and the back is shown to have an RGB ring light that surrounds the rear camera.
As for the launch, the compact gaming tablet is set to be released in China in August 2026. It will likely make a global debut soon after the Chinese launch.
