The long-awaited Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 ports could be only days away. PlayStation has pushed out several patches for the PS3 shooters, which are due out in July. An insider hinted that the uploads point to a release date as early as the week of July 6th.

On June 17th, Treyarch announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 ports are finally coming in July. Other details are scarce, like the precise release date and price for the PS3-era shooters. New activity on PlayStation’s backend suggests the games could emerge within days rather than weeks.

PlayStation Game Size tracked multiple patches for both Call of Duty games surfacing on July 2nd and 3rd. Update version 1.02 arrived first, followed by 1.03 a day later. The latter number is a popular final update for PS4 and PS5 titles to receive before launching. Several files appearing in quick succession also piqued the curiosity of insiders like CharlieIntel.

CharlieIntel correctly leaked significant information related to the Activision shooter franchise. According to a social media post, he believes that the Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 release dates “should be relatively soon”. However, the holiday weekend in the U.S. seems an unlikely time for their debut.

Are Black Ops loyalists jumping the gun?

Some players speculate that the publisher will wait for the latest Black Ops 7 free trial to end on July 6th. Another theory is that the PS5 ports will not materialize until the COD League Championship Weekend concludes on July 19th. Intrigued followers are constantly refreshing official sources for clues.

Although they may be ready for action, there are still unknowns with the Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 versions. Cost is one mystery, which CharlieIntel earlier offered his take on. He noted that the Xbox Store had updated prices for the titles, with each costing $40. If DLC is not bundled for free, PlayStation console owners would have to set aside more funds than anticipated.

Treyarch did confirm that the games will be ports rather than remakes or remasters. Buyers can expect familiar modes, including a single-player campaign, multiplayer, and zombies. Any technical upgrades are likely minimal. Regardless, freed from their PS3 jail cell, many Call of Duty fans are anxious to make the investment.
