Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and NBA 2K21 join huge list of games that can be played at 60 FPS or above on the PS5
A Reddit user known as OPG609 has been delivering a much-requested service to PS5 owners by putting together an exhaustive list of games that can be played at 60 FPS or above. Many PS5 and Xbox Series X|S buyers were dismayed to discover that some titles would only run at 30 FPS on their brand-new hardware, and for many it is a dealbreaker when making a purchase decision. Unsurprisingly, major names like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, NBA 2K21, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Demon’s Souls are on the list, but there are some surprising inclusions too and others with specific caveats.
So apparently The Witcher 3 can run at 60 FPS on the PS5 but this is only if you run the disc version without updates. A future patch will bring Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 to the required FPS rate while Ghost of Tsushima can deliver 60 FPS in resolution and frame rate modes. “Performance mode” abounds, bringing some titles to 60 FPS and others up to 120 FPS, although generally for the higher rate you would be restricted to 1080p instead of 4K (Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Devil May Cry V: Special Edition, etc.).
Unsurprisingly, resolution is a sacrifice in many cases if the player wants 60 FPS rates on the PS5. So while Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy XV, and Battlefield 4 can hit the magic frames per second rate, it will have to be in Full HD mode and not 4K UHD. There are some outliers: Games that hit 60 FPS at 1800p include Battlefield 5 and The Last of Us Remastered. The current list has been posted below but check here for any future updates.
