Lego PlayStation set announced with a higher price tag than expected

PlayStation, in partnership with the Lego Group, has unveiled the Lego PlayStation set. The set, which is a replica of the original PlayStation console and PlayStation controller released 30 years ago, also includes references to two notable games that were released for the original console.

The Lego PlayStation set has 1,911 pieces, just as revealed in a leak a few weeks ago. According to the official announcement, it was built-in close collaboration with Lego designers, and it features hidden details from PlayStation's history.

The set includes dioramas of Ape Escape and Gran Turismo, that are not only customizable, but can be displayed on their own. For example, the monkey's helmet has a swappable blue or red light, while the Gran Turismo diorama has a miniature track. In addition, the set itself has functional mechanisms for the power button and disc door.

The PlayStation set measures 26cm wide when fully assembled, which is almost a 1:1 scale of the console. Scheduled for release on October 1, it will be available on the PlayStation direct website. It will also be available on the same date for Lego Insiders Early Access, and for everyone else on October 4 on Lego's website and Lego Stores.

The Lego PlayStation Set is priced at $179.99 in the US, which is higher than the rumored $160 price tag. It will also be available in the UK for £139.99, while the recommended retail price in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain is €159.99. Those in Japan will be able to get it for ¥27,980.
