The Minisforum 895D7 is a recently released SFF PC powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX, and the company offers the option to pair it with a low-profile Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB GPU. With SteamOS installed, ETA Prime has now put this mini PC against the Steam Machine.

Minisforum recently released the 895D7, a compact PC with Ryzen 9 8945HX and support for dGPU. The company itself is currently offering the option to get the system with a low-profile AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU installed, and ETA Prime has managed to get one with the same configuration.

As the YouTuber showcases, the low-profile Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU is from Vastarmor. This compact dual-slot dGPU makes the Minisforum 895D7 a proper gaming PC, and though it's a bit more expensive (barebone available on Amazon), with SteamOS installed, the system seems like a better alternative to the Steam Machine.

Specifically, in the comparison video from ETA Prime, the 895D7 with the RX 9060 XT held its ground really well against the Steam Machine. Among the games tested, the Minisforum PC was up to 44% faster in Cyberpunk 2077, delivering an average of 26 FPS at 4K resolution with visual settings set to "Ultra," while the Steam Machine was able to hold an average of 19FPS.

There was a notable difference in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with the Minisforum mini PC offering 77% better performance at 4K resolution with the "Very High" visual preset. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered also favored the 895D7 heavily, and the system was 127% faster than the Steam Machine at the 4K resolution.

These differences aren't anything out of the unexpected, as the Steam Machine features an 8GB GPU, which isn't really ideal for 4K gaming. It's also an RDNA 3 GPU, meaning that the FSR 4 upscaling and frame generation performance will be better on the RDNA 4 GPU found in the Minisforum 895D7.

But then again, the Minisforum 895D7 with the RX 9060 XT, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD costs $1,639. That's about $600 more expensive than the base Steam Machine, which retails for $1,049. Valve's gaming system is also shorter, while Minisforum's offering is a bit slim but taller. ETA Prime's video is attached below for those who are interested in learning more about the comparison.
