Pokémon Winds and Waves leak: Fans may have to prepare for a long period of silence

Since Pokémon Winds and Waves was announced during Pokémon Day in February, fans have been waiting for more details about the tenth generation of Pokémon games. Aside from a few leaks, including rumors of a possible Komodo dragon Pokémon with a rare typing, little new information has surfaced so far. According to one insider, that could remain the case for quite some time.
Nintendo has already confirmed that Winds and Waves is scheduled for 2027. According to leaker Riddler Khu, the new Pokémon games, which rumors suggest could be set in a region inspired by Southeast Asia, are expected to launch toward the end of next year. That would not be particularly surprising, as new mainline Pokémon games traditionally release in November. The more controversial claim is that there may be no further announcements about the games throughout 2026.
If true, the earliest likely opportunity for new information would be Pokémon Day 2027. However, the claims cannot currently be verified, as Khu has not provided a source. Such a long stretch of silence would be unusual for the Pokémon franchise. Previous mainline entries such as Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet typically received additional trailers and details within a few months of their initial reveal.
On X, reactions have been correspondingly skeptical. Many users consider a complete lack of updates until 2027 unlikely. At the same time, some fans are taking a more positive view. After the poor technical state of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, they hope Game Freak may use the additional time to improve performance, graphics and overall polish. On Reddit, users are also questioning the credibility of the leaker, who was once regarded as a well-connected insider but has become more controversial in recent years due to vague claims.
