RedMagic OLED gaming tablet with 185Hz display tipped for an imminent launch

The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro, which launched as the Astra in the global market, is due for a refresh. With an announcement in early March 2026, the brand has already confirmed that the successor is coming, but there's still no official word about when it may be released.

Now, a new report from Smart Pikachu, a notable leaker, suggests that the gaming tablet is around the corner. It's slated for a May 2026 launch, and RedMagic typically launches its products globally shortly after their Chinese debuts.

This tablet is set to be positioned right against the Lenovo Legion Tablet Gen 5, which is a recently launched compact tablet with an 8.8-inch LCD display. However, RedMagic could have an upper hand as its upcoming gaming tablet will reportedly sport a 9-inch OLED panel.

Digital Chat Station, another reputed leaker, previously shared that this OLED display will feature a 185Hz refresh rate, which would be a notable upgrade from the 165Hz screen found on the predecessor and the Legion Tablet Gen 5. The upcoming RedMagic gaming tablet is also set to feature an advanced cooling system, which should enable the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 to deliver sustained performance under load.

Previous reports have also hinted that the upcoming RedMagic gaming tablet will sport an 8,300mAh battery. If this stands true, this aspect will make the pad a little behind the Legion Tablet Gen 5, which has a 9,000mAh capacity (compact 45W Iniu 10K power bank curr. $19.98 on Amazon).

In the report, Digital Chat Station has also hinted that the tablet will be available with up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It would be interesting to see how competitive the pricing will be, as in China, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-equipped Legion tablet had a starting launch price of CNY 3,999, about $585, which is quite affordable for the specs.

It's also worth noting that the RedMagic 11S Pro+ series is expected to be introduced alongside the tablet. This gaming phone line could feature an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC.
