Xiaomi confirms global release for new compact tablet with cellular connectivity

On April 28, Xiaomi quietly released the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 and Redmi Pad 2 9.7 4G across Southeast Asia. Just a day later, and the company has signalled that both variants will be available in more markets than just Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand too.
Specifically, the company has added both the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 and Redmi Pad 2 9.7 4G to its global websites. For context, the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is the global version of the Redmi Pad 2 SE that debuted last week in China. As its name suggests, the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 serves as a smaller alternative to the Redmi Pad 2 that we reviewed in July 2025 (curr. $177 on Amazon).

To that end, Xiaomi equips the tablet with a 9.7-inch display that resolves at 2,048 x 1,280 pixels with a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 600 nits peak brightness in outdoor mode. Also, all versions feature the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 chipset, 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of UFS 2.2 flash storage. A 7,600 mAh battery is present too, which helps contribute to the tablet's 226.5 x 147.9 x 7.4 mm dimensions and 406 g weight.
Currently, Xiaomi has not confirmed when the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 or Redmi Pad 2 9.7 4G will reach other markets like Europe, Africa or the Middle East. With that being said, the fact that the former is already available in Japan indicates that Xiaomi's new 9.7-inch tablets will land in other countries sooner rather than later.
