Onyx's Boox Leaf5+ eReader tries to fill the hole left by the Kindle Oasis

Onyx has announced a new monochrome ereader in China called the Boox Leaf5+. The device packs some pretty interesting features, but it's the design that actually shines. This is arguably Onyx's best-looking device, and it is reminiscent of Amazon's now-discontinued Kindle Oasis.
The Boox Leaf5+ is actually a thin device, measuring 4mm at its thinnest point. However, like the Kindle Oasis, it has a ridge that takes up a portion of the back. This ridge, which adds an extra 4.5mm to the thickness, should make it easier to hold the ereader.
Onyx finishes the design with a nice sky blue paint job, which is a welcome departure from the black or white colors of its other devices. Unfortunately, the Boox Leaf5+ doesn't have an IP dust and water resistance rating like the Kindle Oasis.
The Boox Leaf5+ has a 7-inch Carta 1300 panel with a 300ppi. The display, which is flush with the front, is protected by etched tempered glass; and flanking it on the right is a thick bezel that is home to two page-turn buttons. It is also reported to have a new screen light with a color temperature range of between 3000K to 5500K.
The Boox Leaf5+ also has support for a stylus, which gives it an edge over the Kindle Oasis. Users will be able to write and draw with the optional stylus. Powering the Boox Leaf5+ is an unnamed Snapdragon processor with eight cores and a 2.0GHz clock speed. It is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
The ereader also has Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, a microSD card slot (up to 2TB card), and a USB-C. It also has a 2,000mAh battery inside it, which is smaller than the 2,300mAh capacity of the Onyx Boox Go 7 (available on Amazon for $269.99). It ships with Boox OS 4.2, which is based on Android 13.
The Onyx Boox Leaf5+ has a launch price of CNY 1899 (~$278/€238), but for a limited time following its launch, it was available for CNY 1749 (~$256/€219). Unfortunately, there's no info yet on a global release.
