Onyx has released a Bluetooth remote that serves as a physical page-turner for compatible Boox devices. Called Tappy, the remote can flip through pages, scroll through webpages, and control media playback.

Last October, Kobo launched the Kobo Remote, a Bluetooth device that adds physical page-turn buttons to select Kobo e-readers. Now, Boox has followed suit with its own device called Tappy, and not only does it have an interesting and colorful design, but it differs from the Kobo Remote in a variety of ways.

The Boox Tappy Wireless Page Turner has a design that is reminiscent of retro typewriters. It comes in green, has two round removable buttons, four anti-slip feet, and unlike the Kobo Remote which uses a replaceable AAA battery, this has a rechargeable battery.

The Boox Tappy looks like a miniature retro typewriter with its bright color and large round buttons.

When connected to a supported device, Tappy allows users to flip through pages without the need to tap on the screen of your ereader. It also has a browsing mode and a multimedia mode so users can scroll through webpages and control media playback. To switch between modes, long press both buttons for a few seconds. The mode should appear at the top of the screen.

Boox Tappy connects via Bluetooth, has an LED that indicates the power status, mode change, and low battery. It is pretty lightweight at 29 grams and can fit into your pocket. It also has a lanyard, so you can wear it on your wrist. There's no mention of the battery life, but the product page says it has “a long-lasting battery”. Nevertheless, there's a USB-C port on the back to charge it.

Boox Tappy is available to buy now from the Boox Shop for $25.99 ($29.99 if it ships from the US warehouse). It is compatible with the Boox Note Air5 C E Ink Android tablet (available on Amazon for $529.99), the Palma 2 Pro which we reviewed, and other Boox devices running firmware v4.2 or later.
