Onyx-owned Boox has brought its new phone-sized e-reader with a color display to global markets. Sold as the Boox Palma 2 Pro, it also has 5G dual-SIM support and stylus support, which pits it against rivals such as the HiBreak Pro Color and the reMarkable Paper Pro Move.

Shortly after launching two new phone-sized E Ink devices with 5G connectivity in China, Boox has wasted no time in following it up with a global launch. However, instead of two models, Boox has chosen to launch only one. As speculated, the new device arrives under the Palma series, but rather than launch as the Palma 3, it comes as the Boox Palma 2 Pro.

Arriving as the global version of the Boox P6 Pro Color available in China, the new Palma 2 Pro has a 6.13-inch Kaleido 3 ePaper screen that can display up to 4,096 colors. The screen, which has a 412 × 824 (150ppi) color resolution and an 824 × 1648 (300ppi) black and white resolution, is protected by glass and has a front light with adjustable temperature.

With the new color display, users can now read their favorite books, magazines, documents, and comics in color. And with the InkSense Plus Stylus (sold separately), they can annotate documents, highlight texts, and take down notes using different pens in a variety of colors.

In addition to a color ePaper display, the Palma 2 Pro has 5G connectivity, a first for a Palma device. This enables internet connection when away from a WI-Fi network or when on the go. Equipped with a hybrid SIM slot, users can choose between having two SIM cards or a single SIM and a microSD card.

Boox clarifies that the Palma 2 Pro uses a data-only SIM, which means it cannot be used for traditional phone calls and messaging. However, the device itself has a receiver above the display, two microphones, and a speaker at the bottom.

Powered by an octa-core processor, the Boox Palma 2 Pro has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB with a MicroSD card. The power button on the right doubles as a fingerprint scanner, while the left is home to volume/page-turn buttons and the smart button. The Palma 2 Pro also has a 16MP rear camera and an LED flash. It also has a water-repellent design.

Like the Palma 2 (curr. available on Amazon for $269.99), the Palma 2 Pro has a 3,950mAh battery capacity that charges via a USB-C port, which also supports USB OTG and USB audio. Boox ships the Palma 2 Pro with Android 15, and it comes with the Google Play Store pre-installed.

The Boox Palma 2 Pro is available to pre-order now for $399.99/€399.99 in black and white color options ahead of its release on November 7. It comes with a free magnetic protective case, but buyers will have to shell out $45.99 for the InkSense Plus Stylus. This brings the total to about $446, which is just a few dollars cheaper than the $449 reMarkable Paper Pro Move. Although reMarkable includes a stylus in the box, buyers who want a folio case will have to spend between $69 and $139.
