Boox is preparing to launch new ereaders in China later this month. The devices will be sold as the Poke 7 series, and official images show a new and colorful design.

Just a few weeks after the launch of the Boox Leaf5+, Onyx has begun teasing new devices that will be announced later this month. Confirmed to be the Poke 7 series, the upcoming ereaders sport Onyx's new revamped and colorful design.

The Poke 7 series will be announced in China on May 21 according to official posters shared on Weibo. The images show that there will be three colors — Blue, White, and Sand — all of which have a ribbed design on the back and a flushed monochrome display.

The Boox Poke 7 series has a flushed display and a ribbed back.

Previous Boox ereaders are mostly available in boring colors such as black and white with a smooth back, so it is nice to see the switch to a colorful and functional design. In the case of the Poke 7, the colors are not only attractive, but the ribbed design means users can have a firm grip on the device. There's also the Boox Leaf5+, which is available in a soft blue color and has a ridge on the back similar to that of the discontinued Kindle Oasis.

There's no technical information about the Poke 7 series, but Boox says interested buyers can pre-order the device on Taobao now. Those who pre-order will get early bird benefits, a price guarantee until the 618 festival, and priority shipping.

While not yet revealed, we expect the Poke 7 series will eventually get a global release, albeit under a different name.
